Hawke’s Bay Rich Berry Merlot

2021 was a stunning year for Hawkes Bay across all varietals, including Merlot. A very dry growing period over summer that continued right through the autumn harvest window resulted in fruit with great concentration of flavour, and the grapes were harvested in perfect condition at optimal ripeness.

The fruit was crushed into small red fermenters. Initial fermentation took place over 10 days, with mixing of the cap 3 times per day. The wine remained on skins for a further 7 days until being pressed off skins. After the pressing, the wine underwent a meticulous oak maturation process. Oak barrels were used to enrich its character, infusing subtle oak notes that enhanced the fruitiness, resulting in a well-balanced and textured wine.

Colour Deep red.

Aroma & Taste An intense, fruit forward nose of ripe plums and black fruits, complemented by a sweet, spicy oak note. Rich and mouth-filling, with a Rich and mouth filling, with a superb balance between fruit sweetness, acidity and tannins. A long finish with soft tannins. Spice and dried herb complexities.

Pairing Delicious with smoky BBQ ribs, Osso Bucco, hard cheeses or chocolate tarts.
